Where Does Pastor Doug Batchelor Stand?

< Prev.Next >

One week after the decision by the Amazing Facts board to consider merging with 3ABN, there are still a lot of questions:

  • Has a merger between Amazing Facts and 3ABN already taken place?
  • Does Pastor Doug agree with Danny Shelton and his apologists that Danny Shelton isn't going anywhere?
  • Where does Pastor Doug stand in relation to the allegations and how they should be dealt with?
  • Does Pastor Doug think that the allegations against Tommy and Danny Shelton are just gossip and rumors, as Danny's apologists contend that he does?

What little communication has come out of Amazing Facts only gives a few hints as to what the answers to these questions might be.

"In Concept ... First of Many Steps ... Potential Marriage"

The following memo was circulated among Amazing Facts staffers.

Subject:  Update from Board Meeting
Date:  Wed 4/18/2007

Dear Staff,

We appreciate your prayers and support as our board meeting met this afternoon to consider a partnership with 3ABN.

We have voted to move ahead in concept with the uniting of Amazing Facts and 3ABN. There are still many details to be worked out and so this is the first of many steps in this potential marriage.

...

If it's only a potential marriage, there ain't no done deal yet.

More Assertions by Danny's Apologists About Where Pastor Doug Stands

Before we post what little we have from Amazing Facts on how Pastor Doug feels about the allegations against Danny and Tommy and all, here are several posts from Danny's new apologist, Eirene, that make certain claims about where Pastor Doug stands on everything.

Of course, she may be lying through her teeth, or terribly mistaken. But without clear statements from Pastor Doug yet, even though requested, we don't really have anything else to go by than what Eirene, tomatoe, Rosie55, and Danny's other apologists are saying.

Re: Pondering Visiting Pastor Doug

The following post was made in reply to a non-Adventist posting under the pseudonym PJMusic. This is in response to his idea that he might stop by to see Pastor Doug, to tell him how his Church of God pastor, Tommy Shelton, targeted him as a boy and how Tommy molested and abused his friends. As far as we know, he has never been an Adventist.

Pondering Visiting Pastor Doug

QUOTE(PJMusic @ Apr 23 2007, 11:47 AM)

Only in this past week have I even known that DB even is in Sacramento. Guess I don't keep up well. I am tempted to go and visit him, but not sure he would even see me. I would just want to say who I am, and where I am from (West Frankfort), even though I now reside in Sacramento, and then how the coverup of what Tommy has had an effect on me and the friends I grew up with. I would hope that he would at least listen, although I seriously doubt anything will come out of it. Although I don't really have anything to say on Danny, I do have the issue of Tommy and what had happened to my friends. I guess it's a more of trying to maybe personally enlighten based on my experience of what had happened.

And what is it you think Doug could or would do? I will go through this one more time. There were never any charges filed against TS. No coverup at 3abn ever even came close to being proven, and TS is no longer there and hasn't been for months. So, what would any of this have to do with Doug and AF? Should I even have to add, again, that Doug has been clear that Danny will continue to run 3abn and Doug will continue to run amazing facts. THERE ARE SAFEGUARDS IN PLACE TO ENSURE THAT ONE MINISTRY CAN'T TAKE OVER THE OTHER.

If you'd like to help Jesus mend broken people, why not go on over to the above thread, read PJMusic's post, and give him a little encouragement. Tell him that Eirene's attitude toward both himself and the alleged victims of child molestation is in no way representative of Seventh-day Adventism.

Or, if you want to be yet another Shelton voice, telling him to get a life, get over it, and keep his mouth shut, lest he get sued and slandered, you could tell him things like that instead.

If you've read a bit of what Danny and Tommy's defenders post on the internet, you know what we mean.

"There Will Be No 'Cleaning House' "

Amazing Facts News Release, www.amazingfacts.org
Eirene Apr 24 2007, 01:01 PM

...

Inga, I think by your posts, it might be conducive for you to go back and read some facts here and at CF. Doug will not need another 24 hours. He has said over and over he wants to be freed up for more evangelism. The last thing he wants to do is run 3abn as well as his own church and ministry. There will be no "cleaning house." That is not Doug's position in this. Actually the titles haven't even been voted on much less confirmed. What he has made clear is that Danny will continue to run 3abn as CEO. Safeguards are in place where one ministry can't "take over" the other ministry. Even though it seems you are purposely choosing not to acknowledge the facts, that doesn't make your fantasies ,realities. Time will prove that eventually you must let go of your "dreams" of what you want to happen, and accept the accuality of what is going to happen.

"Danny Is Not Leaving 3ABN"

Lawsuits Filed
Eirene Apr 23 2007, 02:09 PM

...

Now Di, you are refuting every fact that has been established and with what? What evidence do you have to back up any of the allegations. DANNY IS NOT LEAVING 3ABN. He told it on the live and he just said it over at club adventist. Maybe he didn't make it plain enough for those that can't seem to comprehend that he will hold the title of CEO over 3abn. Why don't you email AF and ask them if DS is going anywhere? Because he is generous enough to allow Doug to be given the title of President of 3abn/amazingfacts, he has to now put up with this kind of grief from people who don't know what they are talking about. This has been said and said again. Contractually, neither ministry can take over the other or Danny take dougs position or Doug take Danny's position. Your remark that DS and 3abn is a liability makes no sense whatsoever. If it was a liability, AF certainly wouldn't have chosen to be a part of it. They have been a succesful ministry on their own. Why involve themselves if it was such a liability? Your desperation to believe what you want to believe is extremely pathetic.

"Each Guy Leaves with the Marbles He Came With"

Pondering Visiting Pastor Doug
Eirene Apr 24 2007, 01:09 PM

...

No it doesn't mean defending lawsuits. It means just what he said.

As long as there are those who do not comprehend legal contracts, I will just keep repeating the same phrase over and over and over. THERE ARE LEGAL CONTRACTS THAT MAKE SURE ONE MINISTRY ISN'T TAKEN OVER BY THE OTHER. OR THAT 1 GUY DOESN'T TAKE OVER THE OTHER GUY. AND THE FINAL WORD OF PRESIDENCY HAS NOT EVEN BEEN VOTED ON AND IF DANNY WANTS DOUG TO TAKE THAT TITLE Danny WILL STILL BE CEO. ANYONE WHO DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE LEGAL AND CONTRACTUAL agreements THAT HAVE BEEN MADE AND ARE STILL BEING MADE, IS NAIVE, SHOWING THEIR IGNORANCE OR ARE SO DESPERATE TO BELIEVE DIFFERENT THEY ARE WILLING TO OVERLOOK THE LEGAL FACTS. No I am not shouting, just trying to get your attention.

One more time, if, down the road, things didn't work out or they wanted to seperate for any reason, each guy leaves with the marbles he came with and his own ministry intact. These types of agreements are not done with a handshake. They are done with signed contracts. If DS was going anywhere these legal safeguards on both sides would not have been put into place. There would have been no need. For those of you who are highly educated but are showing a lack of comprehension on this, put aside your education and just try to see it with a little common sense.

"Many Things on These Internet Websites Are Gossip and Unfounded"

Was pastor Doug's secretary referring to the documents we have posted on Save3ABN.com, or to the assertions of "tomatoe" on ChristianForums.com? The email she was responding to mentioned both websites.

Dear ******:

Thank you for taking the time to send us a note. Although both boards of 3ABN and Amazing Facts have agreed in concept to this uniting, there are still things to work out, such as the organizational, legal and structural issues. As plans unfold, we will be posting updates on our website. So check back often.

We do appreciate your continued prayers now more than ever as we make this transition. Please be assured that all donations made to Amazing Facts will stay with Amazing Facts. I would also caution you that many things on these internet websites are gossip and unfounded.

It is our prayer that the Lord's coming will be hastened! And I am sure that is what you want, too.

God bless you.

Which documents on our site did she think were unfounded?

In a follow-up phone conversation in regards to the above email, Pastor Doug's secretary is reported to have said that she was referring to both Save3ABN.com and BlackSDA.com, and that the information on Save3ABN.com is not accurate, because Gailon is out to destroy 3ABN. In another phone conversation she has been reported to have said that the Tommy Shelton child molestation allegations and Danny's cover up of those allegations have nothing to do with Amazing Facts, and that those are things that should be left for the courts to handle.

Of course, Pastor Doug's secretary could have been mistaken, and we trust that she was. Or perhaps the caller didn't quite hear correctly. We wish, however, that we could soon hear something from Pastor Doug to that effect.

Regarding whether preachers and people should not raise questions about apparent violations of the seventh and ninth commandments, and should instead leave such issues to the courts of the land and the state to preach about, consider the final verse of the third angel's message:

"Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus."

Dear _______,

As plans unfold, we will be posting updates on our website. So check back often and I think you will be happy as things work out. God is leading in this transition, but we need to be a little patient. I think you will be happy with the outcome.

One source that called Pastor Doug's secretary reported that we won't know some things until the new board is formed that will make the decisions. In other words, we have to wait until the merger is done before we will know if it will really solve the problems or just cover them all up.

What do you think we should we do in the meantime?

Regardless ...

Regardless of what we do, we plead with Pastor Doug to take a stand against sin in the camp, like Joe Crews did in days of old. There are a lot of issues that maybe can slide, but how can Danny's lies to cover up Tommy's allegations of child molestation be ignored? How can we turn a blind eye at his divorcing Linda without biblical grounds? And how can we just carry on as if Danny never got remarried without producing evidence that at some point after their divorce, Linda committed adultery?

Remember Joe's books, Creeping Compromise and Reaping the Whirlwind? Even if you didn't agree with every stand he took, you had to admire a guy who not only had convictions but also let his convictions be heard.

"Once to every man and nation,
        Comes the moment to decide,
In the strife of truth with falsehood,
For the good or evil side."

The greatest want of the world is the want of men—men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.
